Top Ten Things I do to Save Money on Food Costs:

1.       Scan sale advertisements from local stores for loss leaders and plan meals around those; take a that plan and my list with me when shopping.
2.       Buy extra when on sale to use later, especially meat, which freezes well.
3.       Attempt to plan one pasta, one bean, one pizza, one breakfast-for-supper and one vegetarian (sh, don’t tell the fam) supper meal each week.
4.       Make breakfast from scratch most mornings.
5.       Accept offerings of free or reduced-priced food from friends, as often as possible.
6.       Have leftovers available for lunch every day.
7.       Buy bulk grains from a food co-op.
8.       Mix milk made from powdered milk with 2% milk.
9.       Shop once a week or make do with what we have on hand – gas savings!
10.   Buy store brands unless the taste value is just too noticeably different.
