Theme Song Thursday

For the Cross

The life You gave
Your body was broken
Your love poured out
You bled and You died for me
There on that cross
You breathed Your last as you were crucified
You gave it all for me

Hallelujah, what a Savior
Hallelujah, what a friend
Hallelujah, King forever
We thank You for the cross

There in the ground
Sealed in the darkness
Lifeless laid
The frame of the Father’s son
In agony
He watched His only Son be sacrificed
He gave it all for me

But on that day
What seemed as the darkest hour
A violent hope
Broke through and shook the ground
And as You rose
The Light of all the world was magnified
And You rose in victory

Hallelujah, it is finished
Hallelujah, it is done
Hallelujah King forever
We thank you for the cross

And though our sins are scarlet
You have made us white as snow

Instead

Well, yes, I should be cleaning right this very moment. Of course I WAS planning to do so over an hour ago, BEFORE I had to troubleshoot the printer problems that everyone seems to be having today. . .AHEM!

Whilst accomplishing the things I could do while awaiting the various fixes to take place, (which as it turns out were all NO GOOD, except for the winner:  restarting the modem), I opened a spreadsheet on Google Drive and realized that I did not share this most excellent idea for "large" families who exchange names and gift lists at Christmas time.  If that is you, read on.  If not, it's up to you.

20-20

One question I have often been asked by other home school parents in regard to home schooling is something similar to:  "What do you use to teach writing to your students?"

Those Little Blue Fn Buttons

Sometimes features are hidden from me because I don't take the time to observe them.  For instance the little blue Fn buttons on my laptop have been there for as long as I have owned this laptop.  Admittedly I do often use the volume controls on the up and down arrow keys, but otherwise, I have not noticed.  Over Christmas break one of our daughters was given a tablet with a docking keyboard to replace her ailing laptop.  Through a series of mishaps which appeared to indicate that the tablet was broken, she discovered that she had inadvertently disabled the touch pad.  I tried to discover the "secret" to disabling the overly sensitive touch pad on my tablet by using the same method as daughter, but to no avail.  Our tablets are not the same.  Within a couple of days, however, I unintentionally discovered the disable-the-touch-pad button on my tablet's docking keyboard.  This was a wonderous discovery after many times having sent my cursor to unknown locations while typing because I unknowingly touched the pad. And what does this have to do with my laptop's little blue Fn buttons?  Most of you are way ahead of me, for whom it took weeks to make the connection and look for such an item.  Said button is located on the F7 key,  which by the way, is the same location as said button on daughter's tablet keyboard.  Hooray for another "win" for me, finally!

Speaking of long-time-coming mysteries being solved, after only one week I deduced the cause of last Wednesday's flapjack flop.  In summary, last Wednesday the pancake batter was incredibly different and difficult to deal with, despite my having followed the recipe faithfully.  Then yesterday when I attempted to make blueberry muffins per usual from the homemade muffin mix, I discovered that the muffin mix had been stored in the freezer where the home ground wheat flour should have been stored, and vice versa.  Hence I had mixed up something akin to bread dough with the whole wheat flour which had been sitting on the shelf where the muffin mix ought to have been.  Yes, I did throw out the first wrong batch, mixed up a true batch of muffins and returned each container to its correct "home."  In the wee hours of this very morning, as I was reminding myself to pay careful attention to the pancake making process in order to prevent whatever happened last week. . .you probably have once again already guessed what I realized was the cause.

Once again the mantra that I find myself repeating to one of my students almost daily in regard to math is one I, too, must embrace:  focus and pay attention to every detail as you work.  Indeed, I will do well to heed this advice.

I still have so much to learn.

What I Need

Kris Vallotton said something to the effect that my body, my soul and my spirit have needs.  At church, they tell me all the time about what my spirit needs.  I regularly make time for my body's and my spirit's needs, but I fall short when it comes to my soul. . .

Free of Charge. . .You're Welcome in Advance

Yes, there is is a "right" way to do everything, and if you stick with me, I will tell you all of the secret ones that I know.  I found out that there is indeed a right way to do each task by reading a quick blurb on twitter about emptying the dishwasher correctly.  Internet + the way I do it already = the right way.  It's a foolproof formula.

Theme Song Thursday

Who is this love amazing
Came reaching down to save me
Making all things new
His goodness overwhelms me
With mercies new each morning
Now I can't help but sing

You are worthy
King of glory, King of glory
Forever Worthy
King of glory, King of glory

Open up, open up you ancient gates
Open up, open up the King is coming

Who is this king of glory
The lord so strong and mighty
He's always faithful to forgive
His favour goes before me
His perfect love surrounds me
Now i can't help but sing

Theme Song Thursday

You call me out upon the waters
The great unknown where feet may fail
And there I find You in the mystery
In oceans deep
My faith will stand

And I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine

Your grace abounds in deepest waters
Your sovereign hand
Will be my guide
Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me
You've never failed and You won't start now

So I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior
[x6]

I will call upon Your Name
Keep my eyes above the waves
My soul will rest in Your embrace
I am Yours and You are mine

Theme Song Thursday Belated, Again [because it was the first day back to school, that's why. . .]

Presence - my word for the year 2014!

I Will Exalt You

Your presence is all I need
It's all I want, all I seek
Without it, without it there's no meaning
Your presence is the air I breath
The song I sing, the love I need
Without it, without it I'm not living

I will exalt You, Lord, I will exalt You, Lord
There is no one like You God
I will exalt You, Lord, I will exalt You, Lord
No other name be lifted high

There will be no one like You
And no one beside You
You alone are worthy of all praise
There will be no one like You
And no one beside You
You alone are worthy of all praise
