The Arabian Nights
Quite often our
lunchtime read- aloud-books provide insight, wisdom and humor for our school
day. When the kiddos requested The Arabian
Nights, I was not expecting to find anything beyond humor between its
e-covers, (it’s on my Kindle).
About ¾
of the way through the book, I discovered a meaningful tale entitled “The Story
of Ali Cogia, Merchant of Bagdad.” You
will have to wade through the customary travel details of the main character to
get to the meat of the story; however it is important context for the good
stuff:
·
Ali suffers financial injustice, appeals to a
higher authority and wins in the end.
·
The
Caliph, a wise father figure, displays integrity and honor in his handling of
the case.
·
I
especially love the covert Kingdom
message that “a little child shall lead them.”
·
Justice is served.
Considering the
political climate of the USA at present, our country’s many leaders would do
well to read, to consider and to learn the lessons of this simple story. I’m just sayin’…

That is a such a good book. I haven't read it since I was a kid though. I need to re-read to get some of the things I might have forgotten or missed! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI might change the names from Ali to Mordi and Caliph to Rebbe.....HAHAH...:D
Thanks again for the comments; I don't understand the name change thing, though -- sorry for the duh on my end.
ReplyDeleteThose were short for Mordechai and Rabbi....change from Arab names to Jewish ones. No worries, it was a terrible attempt at me being snarky....lol :D
